Legendary Hip-Hop figure Eddie Cheeba has passed away after being hospitalized last year with his cause of passing still not declared.
Famous hip hop legend Eddie Cheeba has passed at the age of 67 after being hospitalized last year.
The news of the New York based DJ’s passing was announced on Tuesday with the cause not yet revealed. Eddie was well-famous in the hip-hop scene and was considered to be one of the most talented club DJ in the 1970s. An outpour of heartwarming tributes have flooded in from fans and fellow artists following the news as Eddie is remembered as a trailblazer in the industry.
One of the first to share the devastating news on social media was Russell Simmons, the co-founder of Def Jam Records. In an Instagram post, he wrote:
“One more legendary ground breaking rapper has died and the hip hop community was too un educated about their own history to give him the proper flowers that he deserved,” and continued: “To all the rich rappers and ‘moguls’ please note you are standing on his shoulders!!!!! GIVE THIS MAN HIS [flower emojis] RIP THE GREAT LEGENDARY EDDIE CHEBA.
While the reasong of Eddie’s death is still unknown, the news comes as the artist previously faced health struggles. It was reported that the artist was hospitalized in October of last year after suffering his third stroke. Russell told AllHipHop.com:
“Eddie suffered his 3rd stroke. He’s stable but having issues with memory. We are praying for his full recovery,” and continued: “We should all pray for this man because we stand on his shoulders. As a hustler or promoter of Hip-Hop culture.”
During the health issues, Russel gushed over the incredible impact that Eddie has made on the industry and his fans. He asserted that getting Eddie to perform at your party ensured a successful turnout of people and that absolutely nobody, other than DJ Hollywood, would be able to make their company more money or sell out more tickets. DJ Hollywood and Eddie were close friends before his passing and has credited the DJ for heavily influencing his style.
